Washington, DC – Congressman Alford (MO-04) has raised concerns about recent mail delivery delays in Missouri in a letter addressed to the United States Postal Service (USPS) Postmaster General Louis DeJoy. The letter, sent earlier today, inquired about specific strategies being implemented to assist local Post Offices, especially in rural areas, in resolving the current backlog of mail.

In the correspondence, Congressman Alford asked, "What measures are being taken to address the staffing shortages and ensure an adequate workforce at USPS facilities?" Emphasizing the importance of timely mail delivery, he expressed his disappointment in the service's failure to meet the mandated delivery window, which has resulted in tangible consequences for constituents.

"The Postal Service is vital, especially for the many rural communities that I represent," stated Congressman Alford. "It is unacceptable that the USPS has been failing to fulfill their Congressionally mandated six-day delivery window. These delays carry tangible consequences; constituents have shared accounts of delayed checks resulting in late fees on bill payments." He further added, "I hope that Postmaster General DeJoy can provide a real plan to solve this issue, and ensure rural Americans get their mail."
